Seeking editor in chief for respected community newspaper!

Are you ready to lead your own news team covering some of New York City's most vibrant neighborhoods?

The Riverdale Press is seeking an editor in chief to lead content in print and online for our well-respected newspaper.

The Editor-in-Chief will lead the editorial direction of The Press, ensuring the highest journalistic standards are upheld and that the publication remains an indispensable resource for the community.

We’re seeking a leader with a passion for local journalism and the ability to guide a newsroom through a rapidly changing media landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage the editorial team, ensuring the creation of high-quality journalism that resonates with the community.
• Develop and implement editorial strategies that expand the publication’s reach and engagement across print and digital platforms.
• Attend local events, engage with readers, and foster relationships with key stakeholders.
• Assign and edit stories, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and relevance. Collaborate with reporters and freelancers to cover breaking news, features, and in-depth reports.
• Mentor and train staff, promoting a collaborative and creative newsroom environment.
• Spearhead the newspaper’s digital transformation by identifying ways to expand its digital presence, engage younger audiences, and increase online traffic.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of experience in journalism, with some experience in an editorial leadership role, preferably at a community or regional newspaper.
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing multiple projects.
• Proven ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in SEO, social media strategy, and audience engagement across digital platforms.
