The awardwinning Martha’s Vineyard Times, the 2025 recipient of the New England Newspaper of the Year, is seeking a dynamic Managing Editor to lead our 10-member editorial staff.
Aside from the weekly paper, The Times also offers a robust daily digital news operation, featuring a series of newsletters and a steady flow of social media content. The flagship among the digital offerings is the daily Minute, which, along with four monthly newsletters, serves a following of 20,000 members. We are committed to stepping up the ways in which these newsletters can serve our community. The MV Times is also dedicated to enterprise and investigative reporting that delve into vital issues and seek to provide a deeper understanding of Island life, and hold public institutions accountable.
The ideal candidate will live on the Island and oversee all daily news coverage, assign and edit stories, manage deadlines, and uphold our proud and award-winning tradition of local, impactful journalism that serves all of the Island and celebrates its diversity.
Responsibilities include coordinating with reporters and production, shaping digital content, and maintaining editorial quality across print and online platforms. The Managing Editor for News will report directly to the publisher, and will work in close coordination with the Managing Editor for Features, focused on arts and culture coverage featured in our weekly Community/Calendar section as well as specialty publications such as Vineyard Visitor and Arts & Ideas.
Candidates should have strong editing and leadership skills, digital fluency, and a deep appreciation for community journalism.
Prior newsroom experience is required, and a familiarity with Martha’s Vineyard is preferred. With a new owner and new publisher at the helm, the MV Times is on a strong upward trajectory to build a first-rate newsroom that will focus on community-supported journalism that is fair and independent, and that serves to enlighten and inform all of our readers in print and online.
Salary will be in line with the average at weekly newspapers of similar circulation, and will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience.
A start date is flexible, but will take place in the first quarter of 2026.
